The North East Remembered celebrates the heritage, culture and identity of North East England through familiar places, traditions, industries and everyday experiences. Designed for activity providers, care colleagues, volunteers, families and healthcare teams, the resource offers practical ideas to encourage conversation, creativity and meaningful connection.
The activities are not intended to test memory. Individuals can participate in many different ways, including talking, listening, singing, looking at photographs, drawing, smiling or simply enjoying the company of others. Each activity can be adapted to reflect the individual’s interests, experiences, communication style and abilities.
NAPA would like to thank The Hadrian Trust for its generous support in making this resource possible. We also thank the Activity Providers, older people and members of the local community who shared their time, experiences and feedback to help shape and improve the publication.
Special thanks to Jack Armstrong from Cullercoats, Jeff Maguire from Whitley Bay and Gillian Maguire from Whitley Bay.
