Best Practice

Research and Evidence that strengthen activity provision.

Best practice is about learning from those delivering great activity every day. We gather and share examples so others can adapt, improve and grow their own provision.

Our role is to spotlight, connect and spread learning, not to prescribe one way of working.

NAPA’s Research and Evidence work ensures the support we provide to the sector is credible, consistent, and informed by learning and evidence.

Why Research and Evidence matters

Activity provision has a powerful impact on people’s lives. To strengthen that impact across the sector, we need to understand:

  • What is being delivered?
  • Why it works
  • How it makes a difference

Research and Evidence help us answer these questions and turn learning into practical support for the sector.

It enables NAPA to:

  • inform and refresh standards that describe what good looks like
  • shape training that is relevant and evidence-informed
  • develop resources and guidance grounded in real-world learning
  • support evaluation and reflective practice
  • build a stronger case for activity provision

We work with the sector to strengthen how evidence is gathered and used in realistic, proportionate ways.

This includes support with:

  • methods to capture outcomes
  • describing what you do and why
  • gathering both stories and data
  • turning learning into shareable practice

National Activity Conference

Our National (Evidence-Based) Activity Conference brings together people who deliver, support and research activity provision. It connects research, lived experience and frontline delivery to strengthen understanding across the sector.

The conference supports:

  • shared sector learning
  • practical approaches to evaluation
  • discussion of emerging evidence
  • collaboration across roles and organisations

Building the evidence base together

We work with the sector to strengthen how evidence is gathered and used in realistic, proportionate ways.

This includes support with:

  • methods to capture outcomes
  • describing what you do and why
  • gathering both stories and data
  • turning learning into shareable practice

National Activity Awards

Celebrating those delivering outstanding activity provision.

The National Activity Awards recognise the individuals and organisations making a difference through activity provision.

Celebrating good practice helps to:

  • value the people delivering activity
  • make strong practice visible
  • share ideas others can learn from
  • inspire improvement across the sector

Building the evidence base together

If you are delivering activity that makes a difference, we want to help you share your learning so others can benefit.

You can share:

  • articles and blogs
  • case studies
  • evaluation findings
  • conference contributions
  • award nominations
